Dear Trust Supporter,
Unaccompanied Male Voice Harmony The original seven voices came together in the summer of 2001 to make a single appearance at a major charity function in Abingdon. They didn’t have a name then, but when the show organiser asked for “the seven in the bar to be ready in five” there was no turning back. Having all come from a background of various choruses and quartets singing unaccompanied four-part harmony, the sound seemed to be to everybody’s liking, the blend was remarkable, the gel immediate and, as it has turned out, long lasting. Though originally based mostly in the Barbershop genre, their repertoire is now stylistically wider and includes songs from the Beatles and the Beach Boys as well as great comedy numbers, songs from the theatre and some beautiful ballads. For many years 7-in-a-bar have been in demand at functions throughout the southern counties and have been regular performers at the annual Barnsley Flower Festival in Gloucestershire. On April 19th 7-in-a-Bar are performing in the Cross Keys at Bedwyn and the next morning they set off on the Bruce Trust’s barge, Diana, singing all the way to Devizes.
Friday April 20th The Royal Oak, Wootton Rivers 7.30 pm Saturday April 21st Pewsey Wharf 12 noon The Barge at Honeystreet 7.30 pm Sunday April 22nd The Bridge at Horton 12 noon Devizes (Wharf and/or Bear tbc) 7.30 pm They are hoping to entertain as many people as possible along the route and will be making a collection in aid of the Bruce Trust, which provides holidays on purpose-built barges for disabled, disadvantaged and elderly people. The Bruce Trust has enabled almost 9,000 disabled people with their carers enjoy canal cruising holidays along the Kennet & Avon Canal on their four purpose-built boats. They are hoping to recruit more voluntary helpers to assist with weekend turnarounds as the 2008 season is looking busier than ever.
